Someone is filling out a form and asks for your full name.

How do you tell them your name?

Just say your name

Say your name, but you’re ready to spell your first/last name

Immediately start spelling

I don’t have a name/I’m bald/my name doesn’t use any known writing system

People constantly misspell my last name due to it being German and despite it being one of the most common German last names. Of course I am going to spell it out.

my name is a latent spelling disaster so I often just hand people my ID so they can copy from there.

because even when I spell it people will question me, like I don’t know how to spell my own name…

“…roughly 20% to 45% got covid in the hospital…”

Not masking is doing harm to patients. Covid minimization is in direct contradiction to the Hippocratic oath.

It was an absolute nightmare trying to deal with being in the hospital for my dad in 2023 (and trying to keep him from getting fucking Covid atop everything else), I can only imagine things have gotten worse.

A Still COVIDing Comp Zine
Call for Submissions

We put out the call a few months ago for a still COVIDing comp zine geared toward long form writing on the topic but weren’t able to field enough submissions for a zine.

This time we want to take a different - hopefully easier - approach.

The goal with this zine will be to collect photos from people who are still masking to compile into a “lifestyle” zine with the lens that it’s not just necessary but ~cool~ to mask.

We want to highlight all the joy available to maskers from going out masked to decorating and personalizing masking and other still COVIDing equipment to the activism and community around masking.

We would prefer to highlight respirators (KN95/N95/elastomeric masks). No cloth masks alone for this one. Cloth mask over surgical with an ear saver and KN94s will be considered but they aren’t our preferred. We will only use photos of those wearing masks correctly - fully secured over the nose and under the chin with mask straps used as intended.

We are mostly interested in photos of:

  • interesting/cool masked Outfits of the Day
  • your still COVIDing Everyday Day Carry
  • your personalized PlusLife or similar devices
  • masks paired with mask chains that don’t impact the fit much
  • you doing cool activities while masked (zoo, races, performing in plays, art events, rescuing animals, etc)
  • you and your friends or other group masked up
  • you using safe mask modifiers like sip valves
  • your still COVIDing pins, jewelry, stickers, etc

We are also interested in:

  • your favorite masking in public memes (ideally not mean spirited)
  • screenshots of fun or funny stories of masking in public
  • short posts on how you’ve handled people making comments on you masking in public

You can reblog this post with your submissions and how you’d like to be credited or you can email them to mothqueerfreepress@protonmail.com

No payment for accepted submissions because this will be compiled and put out for free to print for everyone. It’ll get added to the CFP library of zines that are totally free to print and spread around as a form of still COVIDing activism.

Our hope is that with the lower barrier to entry, it’ll be easier - and perhaps more fun - to submit. If there’s enough interest maybe we can field another one sometime. Even if you don’t submit, all help with boosting is appreciated!

Thanks y'all! Mask up take no shit!

Have you read Nature of Nature’s Art by Zachary Braun?

Yes, completely!

Yes, partially

No

I’ve never heard of it

“On a slightly different version of Earth, all animals one day become sentient. At the same time they gain Art, a mysterious "magical” ability to express themselves externally & change the world with their thoughts. How will they build their own Society? What happens if they meet humans…?“

Propaganda:

"Come for the dramatic shonen anime style fight scenes using flashy Arts, stay for the absurdly in-depth and nuanced philosophical explorations of what it means to be a civilized person. "We live in a society” the comic. Multiple arcs from different points in the timeline of animal Society. “Does sentient animals include bugs?” one arc is just spiders.“

Read it here!

this man’s work permanently altered my brain chemistry, please read it, thank you

It’s so, SO important to share success stories like this. I know an actual JPL engineer who doesn’t believe in climate change because, “you never hear about acid rain anymore.”

He thinks climate change can be lumped in with acid rain and the ozone layer of “things that were overblown and not really important because no one talks about it anymore.”

It didn’t even occur to him that we actively fixed the problem. Here’s the EPA page on acid rainfall.

From the page:

It’s also important to talk about success stories tonfuel hope that we can overcome current and future conservation and environmental issues.

We fixed the hole in the Ozone layer too.

I wish I could take this post, go back in time, and shove it in the face of literally everyone.

“dolphins are completely evil” I actually don’t think we should assign human morality to animals with no concept of law or civilisation with an intelligence roughly equating to that of a toddler

bottlenose dolphins use “baby talk” when communicating to their babies and smile at each other like humans do when they play. be nicies to them

“Dolphins are evil” is just a reactionary backlash to years of earnestly believing dolphins were all benevolence and rescuing sailors only to find out they can be dangerous and violent like any other large wild animal.

“Sharks are nice” is a similar phenomenon in the opposite direction. Pop culture portrays sharks as malevolant killing machines who crave human flesh, so when people realize they’re just animals who don’t attack people any more than other predators, they overcompensate into thinking you can just swim with great whites with no danger.

The reality, of course, is that both dolphins and sharks are large wild animals who should be approached with caution and respect if at all. It’s probably best for you and the animal to admire them from a safe distance.

yes to all of the above but also consider

from the perspective of other animals we are likewise large wild animals that should be avoided.

don’t take it personally if you don’t get disney moments, just let animals do their thing and remember that humanity has wiped out over 70% of the world’s vertebrates since the 70s

*please just respect animals okay*

Mastercard and visa have reported to a couple news outlets that they are currently being swamped with calls and complaints. Keep up the pressure and try to (politely) insist that you leave a complaint via phone instead of letting the rep direct you to emails. It’s way easier to be overwhelmed by a much smaller number of calls so each one counts for a bit more!

This blsky thread has scripts and hotlines so if you wanna reblog this version instead that would be appreciated!!

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i’ve been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she’d been reading fic since “the days of personal websites” but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic “i’m a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)” nearly took me the fuck out.

icon. legend. diva. i wish her nothing but a kajillion million comments and kudos. i hope her fic updates crash AO3. i hope she knows i’m promoting her to my personal patron saint of AO3.
